Hello Lovellies,

My name is Sami Lovett. I am the founder and creator of Just Lovett Design and The PIECES Project.

You can usually find me in my Design Studio and Workshop in Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley, Leeds. I use my laser cutting and woodworking skills to create bespoke products for businesses and events.

Over the past seven years, I have built an impressive portfolio that I am very proud of.

When I am not making products for my clients, I am teaching others how to make their own products using sustainable materials. Sustainability is something that I am really passionate about, I put it at the heart of everything that I make.

In my spare time, I love a good outdoor adventure, either hiking, paddleboarding or camping.

My Story

I have always had a passion for Product Design and woodwork. I pursued a creative education and in 2012, I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in Product & Furniture Design.

I worked in hospitality from the age of 16 to 23. I supported myself whilst in education from the age of 16 to 21. As soon as I graduated, I managed a few hospitality businesses. This work experience allowed me to learn how to practically run businesses. As a practical, hands-on and people person, this suited me perfectly. I kept making and developing my making skills to complete projects on the side in my garage wood workshop.

A couple of years later, I started my career in creative education. I worked at secondary schools, colleges and universities to teach students of all ages as a Workshop Instructor. I love teaching people how to make their own products and am very knowledgeable about quite a few

making processes.

I always knew that I wanted to be a business owner, and therefore honed my making skills until I discovered my niche. It was during my first role in a secondary school, that I totally fell in love with laser cutting. And the rest is history....

The second thing that I always knew, was that my business would be called Just Lovett Design. So in 2016, I filled in a business plan and got start-up funding for my first laser cutter. I got it installed in my spare bedroom and Just Lovett Design was born!

I was still working full-time as a workshop instructor at this point, so I completed projects in my spare time to build my portfolio.

As the business grew, I started to work part-time so that I could keep up with the demand. In 2018, I established Just Lovett Design Ltd and in 2019, I moved into my own Design Studio and Workshop Sunny Bank Mills.

As soon as I had my own premises, I decided to bring my passion for teaching others into the business. I am not going to lie, the global pandemic was hard and made me think outside the box. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by a supportive network of lovely people that helped keep the business going.

I run workshops to teach adults how to use power tools and DIY skills. Our recycled plastic jewellery-making workshops are popular with all ages too!

I also have a huge passion for empowering young people to be confidently creative. I am really proud of my Creative Enterprise Scheme, which is my flagship learning programme for young people. If you haven't heard about it, you can take a look here.

So, here we are

My journey has been great so far. I love helping clients to bring their visions to life with my design and making skills. I also love helping people ignite their creative potential in my workshops.

Creating my business is the best thing that I have ever done. I feel really proud of the business that I have created and cannot wait for the journey ahead.
